
What Key Fob & Remote Programming Actually Involves
A key fob is not simply a plastic shell with buttons. Inside is a microchip that transmits a rolling security code on a specific radio frequency — typically 315 MHz or 433 MHz depending on the vehicle — and that code must be recognized by the car's receiver module before any command is accepted. Programming means writing the correct transponder data into the fob and pairing it to your specific vehicle identification. For push-to-start systems the process goes one step further: the proximity sensor must also learn the smart key's unique signature so the car recognizes when the key is inside the cabin.
